Tom Cruise is attached to star in Yukikaze, an adaptation of a series of Japanese sci-fi novels by author Chohei Kamayashi. The plot centers around a planetary defense force fighting back against an alien invasion, using a wormhole over Antarctica to set up bases on the aliens’ planet. The novels have previously been adapted into a series of direct-to-video anime movies. Produced by Warner Bros., the movie will continue a bit of a sci-fi streak for Cruise: Currently starring in Oblivion, his next project is director Doug Liman‘s alien war movie All You Need Is Kill, currently slated for a March 4, 2014 release. Cameron Diaz is set to star in The Other Woman, a revenge comedy from director Nick Cassavetes. Diaz plays a woman who learns the relationship she’s in is an affair, and teams up with the man’s wife (Leslie Mann) to get revenge against the cheater (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Life of Pi star Suraj Sharma will star opposite Jon Hamm in baseball drama Million Dollar Arm for Disney. Hamm will play J.B. Brad Bird is directing a super-secret sci-fi project called Tomorrowland for Disney. From a script by Entertainment Weekly editor Jeff Jensen and LOST and Prometheus writer Damon Lindelof, the film’s story is a mystery as of yet, though it is drawing comparisons to Steven Spielberg‘s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The film will star George Clooney as an embittered inventor. British actress Raffey Cassidy, who played a young Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman and a young Eva Green in Dark Shadows, will portray a decades-old robot in the guise of a little girl. Hugh Laurie is in negotiations to play the film’s villain. [Heat Vision, here and here]
